Join your neighbors for a Human Rights Day program focused on food distribution and food insecurity in our community. While Human Rights Day is observed globally each year on December 10 to commemorate the 1948 adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations General Assembly, Falcon Heights will gather on Tuesday, December 9, 6:30–7:30 PM, at City Hall.

What to bring (if you’re able)
Shelf-stable foods. Types of Non-Perishable Food:
- Fruit: Pineapple, peaches, mango, pears, applesauce, mandarin oranges, mango, prunes/raisins
- Vegetable: Carrots, Corn, mixed veggies, green beans, peas, bamboo shoots, baby corn
- Entrée: Chili, chicken noodle soup, pasta sauce, mac and cheese, ravioli, enchilada sauce, chipotle in adobo, diced chiles, diced tomato, tomato paste, fava beans, curry soup, coconut milk, curry paste, tomato soup
- Base/Grain: Rice, spaghetti, macaroni, oatmeal, corn flour, fideo noodle, rice noodle, bean thread noodle
- Protein: Tuna, chicken, black bean
- Snacks: Individually packaged and NUT-FREE
- Other: Cereal
Why this matters in Ramsey County
- According to the University of Minnesota’s Food Insecurity Dashboard, Ramsey County’s food insecurity rate was 13% in 2023.
- Ramsey County data shows that in 2022, 11% of Ramsey County residents were food insecure (vs. 9% statewide). Nearly 1 in 5 children were estimated to be food insecure.
- Program participation underscores the need: as of October 28, 2025, within ZIP code 55113 (Roseville, Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Little Canada), 3,233 residents were enrolled in SNAP and 357 in the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP). Children under 18 comprise 37% of SNAP participants countywide, and adults 55+ account for 20%.
